Built in 1991–92 as part of Salthill parish, the church became a parish in its own right in 1995. Architect Conor Kelly of Simon J. Kelly & Partners designed it; the builder was Michael Fitzgerald & Sons. The cost was £600,000. Artist Vicki Crowley created the sandstone altar, ambo, and font, and designed continuous Stations of the Cross panels and a triptych behind the tabernacle. Wooden statues by Oisín Kelly of the Blessed Virgin and the Sacred Heart flank the sanctuary. It was dedicated by Bishop Eamonn Casey on 5 April 1992.
