The parish of Ballybane was formed from Mervue, and its new church was built between 1986 and 1987. The architects were O’Riain and Yates, with Dr Liam McCormick acting as consultant. He also designed the sanctuary fittings. The Stations of the Cross were painted by Vicki Crowley, and other artworks include a crucifix by Peter McTigue and metalwork by James Healy. The church was built by James Farragher & Co. of Tuam. Bishop Eamonn Casey dedicated it on 12 April 1987. In 1995, a limestone baptismal font designed by Crowley was added.
