Pope Francis described the Synod as “a journey of spiritual discernment” where the Church learns to “walk together and listen to the Holy Spirit.”

He has said that synodality “is what God expects of the Church in the third millennium.” It is not a parliament or a survey, but “a process of listening to God, so that we may hear with Him the cry of His people.”

The Synod invites every baptised person to speak with courage and to listen with humility. As Francis puts it: “Everyone has something to learn. The faithful people, the college of bishops, the Bishop of Rome: all listening to one another.”

At its heart, the Synod is about communion, participation, and mission — a Church that listens, discerns, and walks together.

Called to Bring the Risen Christ to the World

“And today, perhaps more than ever, we need missionary disciples who bring the gift of the Risen One to the world; who go to the ends of the earth (cf. Acts 1:3-8), giving voice to the hope that the living Jesus gives us; who reach every place where there is a heart that hopes, seeks, or longs for something more.”

Pope Leo XVI
