The building was erected in 1872 as a two-room national school. It served as a school until 1942, when it was converted into a chapel of ease by Fr M. Kenny. Bishop Michael Browne blessed it on 21 August 1944. In 1988, Fr Christy O’Connor carried out a full renovation. A new porch, sacristy, and toilet were added, and the sanctuary was reordered. The work, designed by Colm Ó Riain, cost £23,000. Bishop Eamonn Casey rededicated the building on 27 November 1988.

This church was built in 1897 to replace an old thatched chapel, the last of its kind in Ireland. The work was done by local people using stone and sand from the area. It was dedicated by Bishop McCormack on 15 August 1897, and the sermon was preached in Irish by Fr Mark Conroy. The church was reconstructed in 1985 under Fr Leon Ó Mórcháin. The sanctuary was moved to the south, and the old sanctuary became a Lady Chapel. The architects were O’Riain and Yates, and the builder was Seán Cuddy. The work cost £94,000 and was rededicated by Bishop Eamonn Casey on 16 March 1985.
