Built in 1831 when Fr Daniel O’Brien was parish priest of Kilfenora, this small rural church is rectangular with an octagonal apse at the sanctuary and a belfry on the north gable. It remains notable for its simple vernacular character and quiet setting.

Originally built about 1845, the church was renovated in 1915 under Fr Frank Cassidy at a cost of £1,540. Contractors Stewarts of Salthill provided seating and fittings, and the rose window was made locally and transported by sidecar. Further refurbishment took place in 1988 under Michael Hilary, architect, and Guerin & Considine of Lahinch. Galleries were removed, shrines repositioned, and a new porch and font area created. The church was rededicated by Bishop Eamonn Casey on 16 October 1988. A new roof was added in 1996.
