The present church stands on the site of the old church of St James, which was built soon after Catholic Emancipation. The new church was designed by Peter Murphy of Simon J. Kelly’s office and built by James Brennan. It cost £120,000 and was opened on 6 March 1977 by Bishop Eamonn Casey, with Bishop Michael Browne in attendance. The Stations of the Cross and altar from the old church were reused. The sanctuary cross was made by Richard Enda King, and the stained glass was supplied by Abbey Stained Glass. A meeting room, designed by Dara Bradley, was added in 1999.
