The interdiocesan motif represents our shared work in faith and mission. Its design is inspired by a roundel in the stained glass of the sacristy in Galway Cathedral, depicting the boat of Saint Brendan of Clonfert, the voyager and pilgrim.
Brendan’s boat, so small and fragile, carried him and his companions across uncharted waters, sustained only by faith and trust in God’s providence. It stands as a poignant image of the Christian journey – the Church as a vessel borne forward by faith through uncertain seas… yet always towards the light of God’s promise.
In that same spirit, our two dioceses, strengthened by one another, journey together towards tomorrow with confidence and hope.
Together Towards Tomorrow
“Today we begin a new stage in our journey — one that will require patience, generosity, and prayerful discernment. We set out together, trusting that the Spirit will guide us, and that Christ himself will travel with us on the Way. Like Saint Brendan and his companions, we take to the waters of the unknown, not in fear but in faith, believing that the grace of God will bear us forward. May we be good companions to one another on this voyage of renewal, and may our future be blessed because, together with Christ, we have travelled on the Way.”
