Built in 1868 by Fr E. Power, the church is Gothic in style with limestone walls, a tower and belfry, and seven marble altars—reflecting its history as a resort for priests on holiday. In 1958 architect Simon J. Kelly redesigned the building, extending the west end to create a new sanctuary and removing the wooden bell tower. The work cost £32,000 and was carried out by Michael McNamara of Lisdoonvarna. The church was reopened by Bishop Browne on 23 August 1959.
