Our Lady of Lourdes and St Colmcille, Leitir Moir

Michael Scott’s original design for this exposed coastal site was rejected by Bishop Browne, and Simon J. Kelly produced the final plan. Local people cleared and levelled the rocky ground by hand before construction. The church was built by Farmer Bros. of Dublin for £26,000 and opened on 31 May 1959. Imogen Stuart designed the Stations of the Cross, and the polished limestone altar recalls the form of a dolmen. Bishop Browne blessed the church assisted by Fr Tom Walsh, parish priest.
