Dr O’Fay obtained a site from Sir Thomas Redington of Kilcornan and built this church in 1855. It was opened in 1870. Dr O’Fay had studied in Rome and served as his own architect. In 1943–44, Fr M. Mitchell carried out major repairs. He installed a marble altar and rails, replastered the walls, and added stained glass. Fr Christy O’Connor repaired the roof and removed the gallery in the early 1990s.
