The church was built in 1856 by Fr Garahy in the Gothic style. In 1901, Edward Martyn of Tulira Castle commissioned Christopher Whall to design stained glass windows. His work led to the founding of An Túr Gloine, the Dublin stained-glass studio, whose artists created the windows now in the church. The chancel was rebuilt in 1930, and the church was almost completely reconstructed in 1964–65 by Simon J. Kelly. Bishop Browne rededicated it in September 1965. The entrance gates once stood at Roxborough House and were bought by Canon Considine for £10.
