An Ghailíl was established in 2024 as a joint project between the Diocese of Galway and the Diocese of Clonfert under the guidance of Bishop Michael Duignan. It aims to meet the evolving needs of lay ministry and religious education within the changing context of our parishes and dioceses.

1. Responding to Lay Ministry Needs

To respond to the discernment of a variety of forms of lay ministry within the context of changing parish and diocesan circumstances.

2. Designing Formation Programs

To source, design, and provide formation programmes for various emerging forms of lay ministry.

3. Addressing Religious Education

To respond to the discernment of areas where religious education is desirable throughout the life cycle.

4. Providing Educational Opportunities

To provide opportunities and programmes for religious education at different stages of life.

5. Expanding Youth Ministry and Engagement

To develop and implement dynamic programmes specifically designed to engage young people, providing them with meaningful opportunities to explore, deepen, and express their faith.

To create spaces where youth can actively participate in ministry, leadership, and service projects, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose within the Church community.

To offer tailored formation and mentorship opportunities, empowering young people to take on leadership roles in their parishes and beyond.

6. Ensuring Consistency in Lay Ministry

To devise solid mechanisms and protocols to bring consistency to lay ministry across parishes and dioceses.

7. Supporting and Monitoring Initiatives

To systematically monitor and support lay ministry and religious education across parishes and dioceses.
