One Body, One Spirit: Christians Unite in Prayer at St Columbanus Chapel

Theme for 2026: “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling” (Ephesians 4:4)

An Ecumenical Service of Prayer for Christian Unity was held this evening in the Chapel of St Columbanus, adjacent to the University of Galway, bringing together ministers and lay faithful from many Christian traditions for shared prayer and reflection.

Bishop Michael Duignan and Bishop Michael Burrows led the service. Rev. Helen Freeburn, Minister of United Church Galway, guided the congregation in prayerful reflection.

Inspired by the 2026 resources prepared by the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches, the service reflected on the call to unity given by the Holy Spirit and the shared hope of all who belong to Christ. The theme invited those present to renew their commitment to humility, patience, peace, and mutual love as signs of Christian witness in today’s world.

Sincere thanks are extended to Fr Diarmuid Hogan and Fr Ray Sweeney for their dedicated work within the dioceses in promoting ecumenical cooperation and friendship among the Christian communities.
