Designed by T. J. Cullen & Co., Dublin, for Fr J. O’Reilly, the church was opened by Bishop Michael Browne on 2 February 1969. Built by James Farragher & Co. of Tuam at a cost of £60,000, it reflects the post-Vatican II style with open space and a freestanding altar of Connemara marble recalling Penal-era Mass rocks. The bell tower, eight metres high, is linked to the presbytery by a covered way. The site was donated by Patrick Maloney, a former parishioner working at Cape Kennedy in the USA.
